First Adjustment to Water and Sewer Rates in 13 Years Goes into Effect July 1, 2022
Per Ordinance 17-22, water rates will be adjusted according to the below schedule. Please note you will notice your first increase on your August 2022 bill. Why are the rates being adjusted?
· The rate adjustments will help fund the new water plant and upgrades to existing infrastructure
· The recommendation to adjust the rates is the result of an independent rate study. Under the current rates, revenue shortfalls would result in the depletion of cash reserves, so much so that cash reserves would be exhausted by 2026.
How do the adjusted water rates in Delray Beach compare to the rates in neighboring cities?
· The average single-family residence uses 6,000 gallons of water per month.
· The combined average monthly water and wastewater bill, for a single-family residence, is $57.85 per month compared to $81.25 per month, the average monthly bill in surrounding cities.
· Despite the increases over the next five years, the average water bill for a single-family residence in Delray Beach in 2026 will be $75.66, $5.59 below that of a homeowner in a neighboring city today.
