Old School Square - the City’s epicenter for the Cultural Arts

Delray Beach is known for its unique historic character and dynamic arts scene and exciting nightlife, all of which draw millions of visitors each year. Old School Square (OSS) offers the city world‐class events, exhibits and cultural opportunities. This award‐winning, nationally recognized cultural center successfully combined historic preservation and the arts to become the catalyst for the 1990's renaissance of downtown Delray Beach.

Located across nearly 6‐acres on the corner of Atlantic and Swinton avenues in downtown Delray Beach, the restored early 20th century school buildings (listed on the National Register of Historic Places) house the Cornell Art Museum (c. 1913), the Crest Theatre (c. 1925) and a vintage gymnasium. The Pavilion, which opened in 2002, hosts outdoor concerts and festivals.

Since October of 2021, Parks and Recreation staff has overseen events at the much-beloved campus to ensure Old School Square remains vibrant, active and continues to be at the heart of arts and culture in our community. City staff have hosted many public and private events; like the 100 Foot Christmas Tree and Menorah Lighting, Southern Handcrafters arts and crafts show, Orchid Society flower show, Dog Day Afternoon pet event, Delray Beach GreenMarket, New Year’s Eve festivities, and Movies in the Park.

And we are just getting started! In the coming months Parks and Recreation staff will to ensure that Old School Square stays active and vital to our community with new events for everyone to enjoy. The City is also moving forward with plans to complete renovates to the Crest Theatre and bring even more arts and culture to our beloved downtown.

Stay tuned to the City’s social media and website to learn about upcoming events.
