The Importance of Our Coral Reefs, and What YOU Can Do To Keep Them Safe! - The Reef Institute

Time: 11 AM

Location: Cornell Art Museum 51 N. Swinton Ave, Delray Beach, FL 33444

Description: While coral reefs take up a small space in the ocean, they protect the shoreline from erosion and storm surge, protect all coastlines from 97% of all wave energy, provide a habitat for 25% of marine life, and help produce the world's oxygen. Across the Caribbean, it is estimated that approximately 100 million people benefit from coral reefs, including 41 million people who are likely highly dependent on reefs for their food or livelihood. Climate change increased ocean acidification, and water temperatures, pollution, and various coral diseases have caused bleaching events and the destruction of reefs worldwide. These reefs are here right in Palm Beach County, and there is much we can do to both protect and restore them. Come learn about what is happening RIGHT HERE in Palm Beach County to save the reefs of Florida, and learn what you can do to help!
