The City of Delray Beach maintains a fleet of over 650 pieces of equipment and the Public Works Fleet Division is responsible for servicing all vehicles, keeping records of maintenance, and tracking vehicles. The city recently upgraded its GPS monitoring system to Samsara’s integrated platform. This expanded capability has greatly improved the management of the fleet. This new software allows users to observe the inflow and outflow of vehicles to help streamline our response and increase productivity. Fleet utilizes the information available through this platform to help make more accurate predictive maintenance schedules, efficiency, and sustainability.
In addition to our real time GPS monitoring, Fleet operates EJ Ward’s automated Fuel Management System. This system upgrade that was introduced in 2020, has helped Public Works Fleet Maintenance Division maximize efficiency through real-time control and monitoring. Via remote access, our Public Works Department can observe vehicle fueling, identify shrinkage, and consolidate fleet information with in-depth reporting. We have gained further optimization of our fleet and this system has helped to reduce waste, increase productivity and improve user safety.
Additionally, some of our tasks include:
- Managing all phases of the vehicle and equipment acquisition process including the procurement of parts and outside services.
- Directly managing three City fueling locations including fuel inventory and maintaining proper operation of fueling equipment.
- Performing all related functions associated with online Auctions of de-commissioned City Vehicles.
