Each May, local preservation groups, state historical societies, and business and civic organizations across the country celebrate Preservation Month through events that promote historic places and heritage tourism, and that demonstrate the social and economic benefits of historic preservation. Preservation Month began as National Preservation Week in 1973. In 2005, the National Trust extended the celebration to the entire month of May and declared it Preservation Month to provide an even greater opportunity to celebrate the diverse and unique heritage of our country’s cities and states.
In honor of National Historic Preservation Month, several properties have been nominated for a Delray Beach Historic Preservation Board Award. The HPB Award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the preservation of the City's historic resources.
During the voting, Board members will consider projects, from several categories, which are fully completed and have been issued Certificates of Occupancy during 2022 - 2023.
The winners will be honored during the following HPB meeting set for May 3, 2023.
Award categories include: Residential Contributing; Commercial or Individually Designated; Individual Designation.
The City of Delray Beach values our historic sites and our residents’ efforts to help preserve the character of our Village-by-the Sea. Congratulations and best of luck to each of the nominees!
