CLIMATE CHANGE TAKES CENTER STAGE IN CLIMATE AND ART 2023 EVENT IN DELRAY BEACH

From the planet’s water and corals to its trees, animals and atmosphere, climate change is ubiquitous. At the City of Delray Beach’s Climate and Art 2023 event, there will be special lectures exploring climate change and its effects. Taking place at the Cornell Art Museum and the Arts Warehouse, the lectures are open to the public and will feature local experts.

“Climate and Art 2023 is a way to interact and inform an audience about climate change from a different angle,” said Kent Edwards of the city’s Office of Sustainability and Resilience, which organized the event.

Speakers at the museum, 51 N. Swinton Ave., Delray Beach, will start at 10 a.m.  These include Mark Cassini from Community Greening talking about the city’s 10,000 tree campaign, a recycling talk from the Solid Waste Authority, Leneita Fix from the Reef Institute presenting on the importance of corals, and Evan Orellana from Surfrider speaking on clean water and healthy beaches.

At the Arts Warehouse, 313 N.E. 3rd St., Delray Beach, speakers will start at noon and include George Gann of the Institute for Regional Conservation talking about habitat restoration, and staff from the City of Delray Beach talking about the green building ordinance, greenhouse gas inventory, and the National Flood Insurance Program’s community rating system. After the presentations there will be a climate challenge announcement.

Delray Beach is partnering with the National Wildlife Refuge Association to host a Pollinator BioBlitz beginning at 9 a.m. Participants should meet by the stage in Old School Square, and they will use the iNaturalist app for the event.

The Educational Heritage Garden at the Delray Beach Historical Society, 3 N.E. 1st St., Delray Beach, will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The garden features Florida native habitats and important messages about perpetuating native gardens, endangerment issues and sustainability.

All of the events are free and open to the public. City-certified green businesses, Hopportunities, One World Zero Waste; and Lionfish, will also participate. For more information, visit www.DelrayBeachFL.Gov/ClimateAndArt
