Where: Orchard View Park, 4060 Old Germantown Rd, Delray Beach, FL 33445

Join us at 9am at Orchard View Park for the 2022 Climate and Art 2022 WAVES kickoff event!

Cara Abbott, from the Institute for Regional Conservation (IRC) will give a talk describing the habitat and ecological restoration project underway at Orchard View Park. The goal of this project, which began in June 2022, is to remove non-native, invasive plants. This will help restore native plant diversity and benefit wildlife like native butterflies and songbirds. Following the talk, there will be a guided walk around Orchard View Park to help better understand the project and learn how to identify some of the plant species there.

Cara joined IRC in 2015 as Education and Outreach Coordinator. She is responsible for organizing and implementing volunteer events, providing educational talks and programs, and managing IRC social media. She also served as Program Manager during a leadership period from 2017-2018. A native of northern Virginia, Cara moved to South Florida in 2012 where she earned a Master's Degree in Environmental Science from Florida Atlantic University in 2015. Her thesis research focused on the effects of sea level rise on the Black needle rush (Juncus roemerianus) grown in a high nutrient environment. Cara also teaches biology courses for a homeschool enrichment program in Boca Raton and volunteers with the Sea Turtle Conservation League of Singer Island.
